CAS Spring Meeting: This year's CAS Spring Meeting will be held at the New Orleans Marriott on May 3-6, 2009, and will feature two distiquished speakers from CoreLogic.
Howard Botts Ph.D: Non-Traditional Sources for Predictive Modeling, Wednesday, May 6, 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., La Galerie II (2nd Floor), New Orleans Marriot
Beginning with credit, insurance companies have begun to rely more and more on data that may not historically be in their data set. Consequently they have had to rely on outside vendors. Some of these vendors are now developing information that may specifically be used as part of a predictive modeling score or rating plan. This session will describe a few of the options that are available to insurance companies.
George Rehban: The Impact of Property Characteristics on Homeowners Insurance, Monday, May 4, 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., La Galerie VI (2nd Floor), New Orleans Marriot
Historically, the only true property characteristic that homeowners insurance has been rated on has been construction class. There are other variables that have been used that may correlate to property characteristics, but the actual characteristics have not been used directly. This session will discuss the types of property characteristics that are available and being used in the industry today, and also the applications of these characteristics to marketing, underwriting, pricing, and claims handling (both non-catastrophe and catastrophe).
