In 1986, a company called Flood Data Services, Inc. was founded to provide the mortgage banking industry with accurate and timely flood compliance services. With the creation of proprietary methodology and processes, the company rapidly built an extensive database of highly accurate, manually mapped flood zone determinations, creating a competitive edge and quickly gaining market share. Flood Data Services executives began looking for a company that shared their business values. They found The First American Corporation. In January 1995, First American purchased Flood Data Services, Inc., and First American Flood Data Services was born.
